Budapest, Pearl of the Danube

It’s been over a week now. Paprika and I are back in the Land of the Long White Cloud.

Time flies…

More than once during these holidays I thought how marvelous it could be to have a way to record a moment. Not only visually. But to have a piece that would capture what all my senses have been moved by at a particular moment.
I would keep that memory in a jewellery box, because it would be so precious. And sometimes, I would carefully open the box. And I would have again the full sensation of this moment…

Summer 2012, Budapest, Hungary.
There’s this warm breeze that caresses my skin.
And while Paprika and I stroll in the streets, my nose is constantly up, looking at the architecture.
We hear a melody… Someone’s playing piano.
Like in a movie scene, I follow the music. I stop in front of a renaissance style building and I stare at the open window where the notes come from.
The bells of the church nearby resonate and bring me back to reality.
We keep walking.
We don’t really know where our steps lead us…
We stumble upon an old synagogue in renovation…
Discover a photo exhibition featuring rarely seen photographs of Kertész and Brassaï.
Rest in a cafe that bring us back in time with a decor that reflects the splendor of the past.
Sneak a peek into the peaceful atmosphere of udvar -courtyard- hidden behind the massive carriage doors.
Everywhere we go, I see, feel and smell History.

It’s the end of the day. The sun sets behind the hills of Buda and the magic light makes everything glow…
I am grateful for being here and having the chance to live it all with my dear Paprika…

Our time in Paris has been synonym of retrouvailles.
We got reacquainted with the city and familiar places, that invariably brought back memories from the part of our life in the capital.
Our journey was also an occasion to meet family and friends we have missed for years.
Unbelievable how in such a short time frame as five years, so many things can change…
As a lovely coincidence, we returned on the exact day in the city where Paprika and I officially celebrated our union five years ago.
And to top it all, Paris gave us beautiful days…

During our stay, we walked. A lot. And we enjoyed cycling too. We liked how each way gives different perceptions of the city.
The architect in me rejoiced in that urban environment. Old or contemporary. The perspectives and details. The contrasting atmosphere from one quartier to another. And how the face of the city changes when comes the night…

It felt good to sit at the terrasse of cafes and watch passers by; drink apéro with friends while telling stories of our life; step into a boulangerie and bite into a good crunchy bread or a fresh viennoiserie; browse around market stalls for fresh fruits and vegetables and feast our eyes on pretty little cakes before having a taste.

All simple little pleasures…

Time went by too quickly, but we had a lot of fun.

Unexpectedly, this trip was like an eye opener and pushed us to reflect on our life and what we want out of it.
Yes, travel broadens the mind…

Au revoir Paris…

Székesfehérvár

I’m rather late in the schedule of my posts… Paprika and I are in Europe.
We have had good time so far in his home town, Székesfehérvár, a historical city of Hungary.
It’s nice to pay a visit to the old Europe after almost half a decade…
I’m getting my architecture fix !
We have enjoyed to the fullest the long and warm days, feasted on good homemade hungarian food and summer fruits, met his friends and strolled endlessly in the little streets…
And though I’ve visited several times, it was an occasion for me to look at his city in a different way.
I’m writing this post from Paris and will not miss to tell you about it soon, until then I hope you enjoy what you see !
