Couper la Poire en Deux

September 04, 2008

I hate to go to the cinema alone. It happened to me a couple of times and how frustrating is it to come out the show with nobody to share about the movie you just saw ?

To have a meal falls exactly in the same category. It’s all about sharing.

When I’m alone at home, I don’t want to cook. It’s just boring to cook and to be left alone in front of your plate with probably TV in the background…

For this reason, I often eat a quick soup or sandwich at lunch and finally starve at 5.00PM !

I made an exception yesterday and prepared a proper lunch for me. Anyway, something quick and simple. A pear and blue cheese tart.

I used a ready flaky pastry - but a homemade one would make it much better. I sliced a Winter Nelis pear and used a local creamy blue cheese ‘Kikorangi’ -that can be replaced by any type of blue cheese. As I didn’t want to end up with a too dry pastry, I first spread a layer of ricotta and crème fraîche seasoned with salt, pepper and rosemary. The tart can be served with a green salad. And to replace traditional walnuts, I used pumpkin seeds.

I felt guilty because it was good. So ‘pour couper la poire en deux’ I did the same for dinner, to share with Paprika. I just completed the meal with a home-made dessert: apple crumble…

Oh, darling! I wish I lived nearby - I would gladly offer myself to share this beautiful food with you! :) Patricia Scarpin

Botacook

What a great pairing… blue cheese and pears. It looks so good, that i wouldn’t mind having a slice [since blue cheese is a taste i have not yet acquired]. See, if blue cheese is served to me just like this, then i will not have any issues. :) Mae

Botacook, merci. I like this pairing too. Patricia, sweetie, I would be delighted to share a lunch with you, but don’t forget to bring one of your delicious cake for dessert ! ;-) Vanille

This is a beautiful meal. Artistically pleasing as well as tasty. In a way, you shared it with your readers. C’est vraiment ravissant! Alexa

It looks both easy and delicious - a winning combination. And since pear season is just about to start in Virginia, I’ll definitively try it. Maybe with a Maytag blue? as usual, delectable photos! Sylvie, Rappahannock Cook & Kitchen Gardener

This is delightful! Blue cheese and pear is a winning combo and the way you’ve presented the tarts is a winner. Nicisme

Alexa, thank you. I confirm that Kikorangi cheese is indeed very tasty ! Sylvie, thanks. I want to know how it turns out with Maytag blue. I did it once with Gorgonzola, but cooked the taste of Gorgonzola is too soft. Tartelette, merci ! ;-) Plume d’argent, merci ! Le graphisme est modestement fait ‘maison’… Vanille

C’est une superbe idée, j’adore! Le graphisme de ton blog est superbe! plume_d_argent

This is absolutely gorgeous! Love the flavors, love the look…love it all! Tartelette
